Fishing in Hermanus:
The idyllic environment with sea, lagoon, river and dams creates a great variety of sport fishing opportunities in Hermanus. So put on your fishing gear, pick up your permit and decide on the best spot to cast your line.
The rocky coastline and the long sandy stretch of beach known as Die Plaat gives rock and surf anglers the option to catch galjoen, steenbras and cob in season. The Walker Bay Fishing Trail is the way to access four special fishing spots on Die Plaat as vehicles are no longer allowed to drive on the beach. The trail is accessed through Stanford and is managed by Cape Nature.
Top fishing spots along the Hermanus Cliff Path are at Die Gang and Siever’s Punt but you will find fishermen trying their luck all the way along the rocks from Kraal Rock to Grotto Beach.
Deep sea fishermen will be in their element as there are several boats that set out from the slipway in the New Harbour in search of Cape Salmon, Cob, Snoek and crayfish in season. Charters can be arranged and the boats are fully equipped and can go as far as Cape Point in search of tunny if required. All fishing equipment and bait is provided. After the fishing expedition, enjoy a drink at the clubhouse and possibly even braai your catch!
The Klein River lagoon and estuary offer the opportunity to catch elf, garrick and steenbras and cob. Slipways are found at Prawn Flats and Maanskynbaai.
Flyfishing is also popular in the farm dams up the Hemel-en-Aarde valley where trout, carp and bass can be caught in the most magnificent surroundings.
