Marine Dynamics Whale Tours

If the thought of being stuck indoors with the kids during the next school holidays has you contemplating cancelling your well-deserved winter family holiday hiatus, or you are searching for an exciting new adventure to embark on with your sweetheart then fear not...a solution is but a few nautical miles away.

The Dream Come True

Conquer the Atlantic Ocean with award winning Dyer Island Cruises and come face-to-face with the Marine Big Five. All your favourite ocean dwellers star in this magnificent show and you will have the chance to see Cape Fur Seals, Bottlenose Dolphins, African Penguins, Southern Right Whales and Great White Sharks up close and personal in this interactive marine safari.

The Ultimate Location

Your destination is Dyer Island Cruises which is situated in Kleinbaai just outside Gansbaai. To get to Kleinbaai take a scenic two hour drive along the coast from Cape Town International past landmark Cape Whale Coast towns such as Betty’s Bay and Hermanus. The drive promises nature lovers visual eye-candy in the form of endemic Fynbos covered fields and rolling mountain ranges. If time is of the essence, visitors can save half an hour and take the beautiful drive over Sir Lowry’s pass.

The Biggest and Safest Boat

Travel in style on Dreamcatcher, a spacious Catamaran that is Blue Flag certified and was specially designed and built for whale watching safaris. This is definitely the Rolls Royce of watercraft and you can feel secure in knowing that you are powered by four 250 hp outboard motors. Dreamcatcher is surveyed annually by the SA Maritime Safety Authority and the crew strive to uphold the highest possible safety standards. There are two restrooms, an observation deck, a PA system, waterproof under seat compartments and there is even a hydrophone onboard.

The Most Experienced Crew

Dreamcatcher boasts a formidable crew that includes skipper and internationally acclaimed free diver, Dickie Chivell, who got his sea legs when he was still in diapers, and skipper Francois Swart who shares with Dickie, years of ocean going experience. Then there is legendary wildlife spotter Kira, who can magically spot a whale minutes before it surfaces, as well as a mix of knowledgeable guiding biologists and enthusiastic marine volunteers.

The Safari Experience

Two hours of exhilarating fun that will remain with you for a lifetime is guaranteed when you choose Dyer Island Cruises for your ocean safari. Meet at Great White House for freshly baked muffins and a steaming cup of tea or coffee while you listen to your pre-launch briefing. Whilst onboard a guiding biologist will be on hand to educate passengers on the diverse marine environment and answer any questions that you may have.

The Protectors of the Dyer Island Ecosystem

Wilfred Chivell, the owner of Dyer Island Cruises and Marine Dynamics, dedicates his life to protecting the ocean and the many creatures within it. A big portion of his own earnings goes into these efforts and when you choose Dyer Island Cruises you can feel proud to know that you have contributed toward The African Penguin Program, The African Seabird Sanctuary and The White Shark Research Project.

The Everlasting Moments

Once back on land you can refuel with some hot soup and bread rolls while you get a debriefing. This is question and answer time. Furthermore, you can purchase a copy of your fun filled ocean safari that gets filmed by the crew’s videographer as well as view a photo gallery and daily blog that gets posted on whalewatchsa.com. Oh, and for those of you who were wondering what a hydrophone is....it is a microphone that is designed to be used underwater for recording or listening to underwater sound. How awesome is that…

All in all an adventure in the making. Contact Dyer Island Cruises directly for more information.
