Hermanus Welcomes You to an Unforgettable Whale Season!
Hermanus is famous for many things, but one experience stands out above all: the annual whale season.
From June to December, the shores of Hermanus become a bustling stage for the majestic southern right whales, attracting visitors from around the world.
The Cliff Path and the Whales
One of the best ways to get up close and personal with these gentle giants is by strolling along the iconic Cliff Path.
This scenic route stretches for several kilometres and offers breathtaking views of Walker Bay.
While you walk, keep an eye on the water, and you should be lucky enough to spot a whale or two breaching, tail-slapping, or simply basking in the sun. It's an experience you don’t want to miss.
The Hermanus Whale Crier
Hermanus has its very own Whale Crier whose mission is to alert whale watchers to whale sightings as they happen. Wearing a colourful uniform and blowing his kelp horn, he alerts everyone to the presence of these magnificent creatures, adding an element of fun and excitement to every whale-watching adventure.
If you see him, feel free to stop and introduce yourself and have your picture taken with him. Don’t forget to tag Hermanus Tourism if you do!
