Now in Stock: HIER Wines
HIER Chenin Blanc:
Made by Lourens van der Westhuizen of Arendsig, the HIER wines are a collaboration with businessman Jaco Pienaar. The Chenin is from a 28-year-old vineyard on Calcareous clay in the Roberston area. Spontaneously fermented & matured for 10 months in 300L & 500L neutral French Oak barrels, followed by 9 months on lees. A percentage of grapes from a late pass in vineyard when grapes are raisiny adds to the alcohol level (14.5%) and honey notes on palate and nose. It is rich, structured, a good food pairing wine with primary notes of stone fruit and secondary notes of honey, and should last 10+ years. Bottles produced: 1260.
NOSE: Complex with Yellow apple, pineapple, nuts, and white pear.
PALATE: Rich, broad, great depth of flavour and well-balanced acidity.
Ph 3.2 | TA 6.5 | Alc 14:5% | FSO2 8mg/l | TSO2 91 mg/l | RS 2.1g/l
HIER Cinsaut:
Also made by Lourens, everything about this wine screams cool climate. Planted on alluvial deposit soils on the Breede River near Bonnievale, the grapes are picked by hand before 9am, cold soaked for 24 hours, cold fermented at 10 degrees, spontaneously fermented then matured for 9 months in 225l neutral oak barrels and a concrete oval tank. The result is elegant, restrained, showing red fruit and black pepper which develops into savoury notes and with only 11% alcohol it is an excellent food pairing wine. 2245 bottles produced.
NOSE: Complex with floral notes, bright red fruit and meatiness.
PALATE: Fresh, with gentle tannins and a bit of spice.
Ph 3.5 | TA 5.52 | Alc 11% | TSO2 44 mg/l | RS 1.3g/l

About Us
Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.
In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC's, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.
Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
