Now in Stock: Swerwer
Jasper Wickens has been a member of the Swartland Independent Producers since 2011, and he says that “Swerwer Wines are made to best express where they come from. Each grape variety is treated in such a way that it is allowed to fully express itself, and this allows for a liberal approach in the cellar. A minimum intervention approach is followed, as set out by the Swartland Independent Producer Guidelines. The wines are naturally fermented and no artificial additives are added, and care is taken not to over extract the red varieties. New oak is avoided and fining process are never used. Only light filtration and a minimum added sulphur are allowed to keep the integrity of the wine in check after bottling." Here are Christian Eedes’ Tasting Notes:
Swerwer Rooi-Groen Semillon 2021
From Semillon Gris, this involves multiple methods of vinification including skin contact and carbonic maceration. The nose is waxy with hints of nectarine and orange while the palate is relatively weighty and thick-textured. Broad with moderated acidity and a gently savoury finish.
CE’s rating: 92/100.
Swerwer Shiraz 2021
From a Paardeberg vineyard on granite. 100% whole-bunch fermentation. Pomegranate, red and black berries, lavender and fynbos on the nose while the palate has good depth of flavour, snappy acidity and fine tannins, the finish long and super-dry. True to the Swartland and very appealing. CE’s rating: 93/100.
Swerwer Touriga Nacional 2021
100% whole-bunch fermentation. Exotic aromatics of plum, black berries, potpourri, earth and spice. Dense fruit, fresh acidity and grippy tannins. Relatively luscious – great fruit concentration offset by nicely tart acidity.
CE’s rating: 92/100.

About Us
Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.
In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC's, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.
Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
