Now in Stock: Eenzaamheid!
Eenzaamheid is situated in the Agter-Paarl area and the name of the farm is Dutch for “solitude”, which refers to its isolation from Cape Town, when it was named in 1693. Janno Briers-Louw, 7th generation farmer, produces award-winning, handcrafted wines from the old dryland vineyards. Janno qualified as a Cape Wine Master in 2016 and his goal is to produce unique and extraordinary wines from their dryland vineyards. The wines are produced in limited quantities with an intense focus on quality. Every cluster of Eenzaamheid grapes is hand-harvested at the crack of dawn and then hand-sorted. We love the attention to detail and are chuffed to have these on our shelves! Here are Janno’s Tasting Notes:
Cinsaut Rosé 2022: With its attractive coral-pink colour, shows fragrant aromatics of rose petals, watermelon, grapefruit and summer berries. The wine is fresh and vibrant on the palate, with a perfect balance between the fruit and acidity. Lingering flavours of redcurrants and watermelon complete this delicious wine. Ideal as an apéritif on a warm summer’s day, or serve with mild curries, sushi, roast chicken and a variety of pork dishes. 2877 bottles.
Cinsaut 2021: A very elegant wine with a beautiful red fruit profile, displaying aromatic aromas of cherries, raspberries, strawberries, pomegranate, rosewater and a subtle core of spice on the nose. This red fruit profile carries through to the palate, where the flavours are well-balanced with the acidity and soft, gentle tannin structure. Drink young and slightly chilled. 3000 bottles.
Cuvée 2019: Usually a Shiraz-based red blend with other Mediterranean varietals, but the 2019 vintage is made up entirely of Shiraz. It displays inviting aromas of layered black and red fruits, with complementary notes of allspice, cinnamon and cloves. On the palate the wine’s bold structure comes to the fore, while a fresh seam of acidity and silky tannins add great support for the plush fruit core. Juicy and succulent flavours of blackberries and ripe cherries, along with notes of mixed spices and cured meats on the finish complete this well-balanced wine. An exceptional value-for-money wine, that will reward with further cellaring of up to 6 years. 3700 bottles.

About Us
Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.
In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC's, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.
Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
