Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc? Oldest Sauvignon Blanc vineyard in SA? Planted in 1965? In the Swartland? Organic bush-vine? Skin contact? Fermented in older oak barrels? This Klein Amoskuil Sauvignon Blanc is is certainly one-of-a-kind! Here are winemaker Charl du Plessis’ notes on the vintage…

Amos Block Sauvignon Blanc 2022: A feat for such a variety in the hot Swartland climate, this is the antithesis of Sauvignon Blanc. It has a wonderfully aromatic and energetic style, full of notes of fig, gooseberries, nettles with minerality and crisp acidity. It is bright and refreshing but with a lovely texture, making it more generous on the palate than you might expect.

WINEMAKING: The bunches were gently destalked and crushed and thereafter underwent 90 hours of skin contact. After 48 hours of settling, 30% of the juice was transferred to seasoned French oak barrels and the balance fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Tarentaal Kwaal Organic Bush Vine Mourvèdre 2022: There's a dance between salty, savoury, and fresh, juicy berry flavors that's super intriguing.  These dryland bush vines were planted in 2001 and lie in a mixture of koffieklip and oak leaf soils.

WINEMAKING: The grapes were naturally fermented in our open-top concrete "kuipe" and were punched down twice a day during fermentation. Partial whole bunch fermentation has made for an expressive burst of freshness in the final wine. After fermentation, the juice was transferred to seasoned French oak barrels and left to mature for around a year. Very light filtration prior to bottling. Only 1000 bottles.

About Us

Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in independent specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.

In addition to the great selection of well-known local wines and MCC's, we also stock craft gin and beer, imported wines, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.

Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
