Wine and Co - Dorrance and Intellego!
New in stock: Intellego
Intellego winemaker Jurgen Gouws says, "Every wine has its own story and we illustrate that through our labels with the help of a local artist. In every label try to spot the scale that symbolises the equilibrium between nature and human. Some are easier to spot than others, but the message is the same throughout the range. From the vineyard to the bottle we strive to find that balance that show how we sync with nature in the most natural possible way." We love the labels, as well as the wine inside!
Tasting Notes by Christian Eedes (WineMag).
Intellego Chenin Blanc 2020: From Paardeberg vines. Hay, naartjie, peach and cut apple on the nose while the palate is medium bodied with fresh acidity and a gently savoury finish. Slightly fleshier than the previous vintage and the better for it – entirely smashable. CE’s rating: 92/100.
Intellego The Story of Harry 2020: 74% skin-fermented Chenin Blanc and 26% Chardonnay. Citrus, peach, oatmeal and a hint of potpourri. A cheerful wine with good fruit expression and texture, moderate acidity and a gently savoury finish. CE’s rating: 91/100.
Intellego Elementis 2020: From Chenin Blanc, fermented on the skins for 14 days. Compelling aromatics of orange, stone fruit, flowers, fynbos and spice while the palate is light bodied with great tension – pure with exhilarating acidity and super-saline finish. Some subtle tannic grip lends interest and as with the straight Chenin, this seems that much better realized than 2019. CE’s rating: 93/100.
Intellego Sleeping Co-Pilot 2020: From Viognier, fermented on the skins for 14 days. Subtle aromatics of peach and apricot, floral perfume and spice while the palate shows quite dense fruit for a wine with an alcohol of just 11%, moderate acidity and some mild tannins leaving a dusty sensation on the finish. CE’s rating: 90/100.
Intellego Kedungu 2020: Now including 12% Pinotage in addition to Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. Semi-carbonic maceration before 10 months maturation in old oak. The nose shows red and black berries, lavender, fynbos, earth and spice while the palate has a pleasant sweet ‘n sour quality – light-bodied with snappy, almost tart acidity and fine tannins, the finish long and super-savoury. CE’s rating: 92/100.
Intellego Kolbroek 2018: From Syrah. Two-thirds of the grapes from Abbotsdale and one-third from Perdeberg. 100% whole-bunch fermentation. Beguiling if slightly wild aromatics of red and black berries, fynbos, olive, a slight meaty note and white pepper while the palate is light yet packed with flavour – super-detailed, super-vibrant and super-long. Lean and nervy and just about irresistible. CE’s rating: 97/100.
Tasting Dorrance Rouge!
Friday | Saturday | Sunday Weekend tasting: Dorrance Wines is based in their urban wine cellar and tasting room located in the Heritage Square, one of Cape Town’s most iconic buildings. Christophe Durand moved to Cape Town from France in 1995 and relies on unique vineyard sites, early picking and rigorous sorting to bring in ”beautiful, healthy berries which shape a more balanced wine with a low PH, higher natural acidity and lower alcohol.” Join us this weekend to taste the Dorrance Rouge - a 100% Cinsault with grapes sourced from vineyards on the different soils in various part of the Swartland.

About Us
Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.
In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC's, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.
Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
Thank you for your support - stay safe - see you soon!
