Wine and Co - Deep Rooted and the Cria...
New in stock: Deep Rooted Wine Co
Working at Stanford Hills during the day, Mark Stephens started Deep Rooted Wines in 2018 after seven years of travelling and making wine in 14 different, highly acclaimed regions around the world. His intention is to create wines that nourish the soul through sensory exploration and minimal impact on the body. All wines are made with minimal use of sulphur and are produced as naturally as possible. All grapes come from either organic or regeneratively farmed vineyards and he now has a Blanc Fumé and Verdelho under his own Deep Rooted Wine Co label.
Of the Blanc Fumé 2020, Christian Eedes says, "The nose shows white peach and cut apple plus overtones of floral perfume and dried herbs while the palate has good fruit definition with bright acidity and a saline finish. Very appealing in its elegance and understatement." (92/100).
Mark's notes on the Touch Me Verdelho 2020: This vintage produced a beautiful crop that ripened perfectly with a lover sugar and balanced acidity. I chose carbonic fermentation in order to accentuate the delicate white floral aromas that originally drew me to this grape. The rather evocative name and naughty label for this seductively soft and delicious wine is not chosen just for thrills. I want the drinker to experience this wine through multiple senses. We focus on smell and taste while this wine has an incredible textural component which should not be overlooked. I want you to Touch this wine, feel the waxiness coat your tongue and linger almost indefinitely. Only the tiniest amount of sulphur is used just prior to bottling.
Saturday | Sunday Weekend tasting: Forming part of the highest lying vineyards in South Africa, the oldest farm in the Cederberg has been home to the Du Toit Family for five generations. The limited release 'Cria' Rosé from Driehoek has alluring aromas of fresh raspberries and cherry with a hint of floral notes, trailed by a well-balanced and elegant palate showing an abundance of stone fruit and mixed berries. Join us to taste this Shiraz-based rosé this weekend!

About Us
Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.
In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC's, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.
Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
Thank you for your support - stay safe - see you soon!
