In Stock: Brunia
After graduating from Elsenburg, joining the CWG internship programme and then working with the likes of Le Riche, Bouchard Finlayson, Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines as well as completing international harvests in Edna Valley (USA), and with Thierry Germaine of Domaine De Roche Neuves, and in Jura with Domaine de la Tournelle, Wade Sander came to work full-time at Brunia in 2020 to take up a more central role in the viticulture and winemaking operations.
Brunia is located 17 km east of Stanford in a valley known as Sondagskloof where the surrounding topography rises to an altitude of 845 m whilst the highest point on the farm is 290 m. The farm, as much of the Cape South Coast, is blessed with vast tracts of pristine fynbos which is home to a diversity of plant and animal species, including the rare Brunia Laevis (more commonly known as Silver Brunia), which lends its name to their range of boutique wines. Under the direction of Brett and Wade Sander, the family has transformed the farm into a mixed farming organic and biodynamic operation - their mantra is "outstanding wines require exceptional grapes."
We are very pleased to have their wine on our shelves again!
Pinot Noir: From single vineyard parcel of sustainably farmed 9 year old vines grown on quartz based soils containing limestone which gives a taut, mineral expression of Pinot Noir with a bright acidity, lending tension and ageability to the wines.
Sémillon: From single vineyard parcel of sustainably farmed 11 year old vines grown on granitic soils giving a bright, mineral expression of Semillon with a coated acidity.
White: The Sauvignon Blanc was sourced from a 13 year old vineyard parcel and the Semillon from a 11 year old vineyard both grown on granitic soils. This is a linear expression of this classic white varietal blend, with an energetic acidity and chiseled structure and great ageing potential.
Syrah: Grapes for the Syrah were sourced from single vineyard parcel of sustainably farmed 12 year old vines grown on granitic soils resulting in a classic expression of Syrah, with typical pepper and clove aromas. This is a very textured wine with fresh tannins and great length.

About Us
Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.
In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC's, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.
Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
Thank you for your support - stay safe - see you soon!
