Whales of Dyer Island - Bryde's Whale

Whales of Dyer Island - Bryde's Whale

Marine Dynamics Whale Tours

A non-migratory form of Bryde's whale is resident in southern African waters and can be seen fairly regularly as they move along the coastline in search of fish. They are also often seen with cetaceans and sharks during the annual sardine run on the east coast.

This whale is identified by their bushy blows and long, low back with a strongly falcate dorsal fin which is seen as the animal sounds. Three longitudinal ridges on their heads are diagnostic of this species.
