Employment Opportunity: x9 Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitors
EPWP Employment opportunities currently exists for X 9 Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitors within the Biodiversity Social Projects Environmental Monitor Programme in Agulhas National Park at various work stations. Only candidates from the following communities are allowed to submit applications Struisbaai, Bredasdorp, Elim, Napier, Agulhas, Wolvengat, Gansbaai and Arniston. The above-stated positions are fixed-term contracts up to the end of 31 March 2025.
The appointed participant or Environmental Monitor will be paid a wage rate of R 208 per day as per Expanded Public Works Programme rates.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with the management of tools, equipment, vehicles and infrastructure, herbicide, stock control and asset management.
• Manage in-field administration and general administration - including timesheets, H&S checklists, logbooks and reports.
• Assist with monitoring and recording of resource management data.
• Monitoring and reporting on problem animals.
• Fence integrity monitoring, basic maintenance and clearing around the camp.
• Ecological monitoring, restoration, and Invasive alien species clearing.
• Waste management reporting and support to programmes.
• Participation in community and environmental awareness programmes.
• Assist with relevant conservation activities when required.
• Participation in regular patrols (foot, vehicle), applying and administering environmental legislation regulations within the boundaries of the park, regulation of visitor’s behaviour and incident recording, interpretation and dissemination of information.
• Assist with fire management - including fighting wild fires, prescribed burns and fire proofing of park boundary.
Minimum Requirements:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for the job:
• NQF Level 4 (Grade 12)
• Knowledge of, and a keen interest in environmental issues
• Basic computer literacy
• Good communication skills
• Willing to work flexible hours e.g. weekends and after hours
• Must be in good physical health
• Passing of fitness trail which includes: (Dependent on the deployment activities)
o 2.4 km run in 12 minutes or less as well as
o Ability to do 30 pushups and 30 sit-ups in under a minute
o Successful candidates are then granted an interview
• No criminal record
• Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to interviews
• Driver's license, code EC an added advantage
• Basic firefighting training is an added advantage
• Basic knowledge of handling power tools, operating tractors and brush cutters (Bossie Kapper) an added advantage

Successful candidates will have to provide their own accommodation as there is no official accommodation in the park. Candidates that will be stationed at the Western Section Ranger, accommodation will be provided.
