Four years ago my journey started, a young teenage girl leaving her small town, Genadendal for the big city to study Pharmacy.
I grew up in a family where education plays a big role, therefore it has always been a dream of mine to study and obtain a degree. I always knew I wanted to help people, thus pursuing a career in the Medical field was on top of my list of possible degree courses.
In 2011, I started my journey as a 1st year Pharmacy student at the University of the Western Cape. I completed my 1st year successfully and received the Golden Key Award for Academic Excellence.
In my 2nd year of studies I was introduced to GGEF. My family and I was pleased when they decided to award me a study bursary, and continued to do so for the remaining 3 years of my studies. GGEF has not just provide me with financial support, but also motivational support, I was always contacted via email or telephonically to find out how I was doing, how studies and exams was going and also just to share a few words of encouragement. I am extremely grateful for the support GGEF has provided me throughout the years.
I successfully completed my studies at the end of 2014, and will graduate in March 2015. I started my Internship in January 2015 at Medipost Pharmacy in Cape Town.
I believe that my story is a true testimonial to all young people that, if you dream it, you can achieve it. I am excited to embark on my journey as a Pharmacist, helping others and bringing change to the health system of South Africa.
