Now in Stock - Restless River!

But first, there is good news! The R320 road which leads to Caledon through the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley has just been opened for traffic after the recent flooding so all the local Wine Estates are accessible again.

There is a “Stop ‘n Go” in place so please do be patient.

Usually one of the last releases of the year, the Restless River wines from Craig and Anne are rated with the best in ‘our Valley’ and the anticipation is well worth it! Here are WineMag’s Christian Eedes’ Tasting Notes for the latest Restless River range:

Restless River Ava Marie Chardonnay 2021: Matured for 12 months, 90% in 500-litre barrels of which 10% were new, and 10% in amphorae. A later vintage and the nose is a little more exotic than usual with notes of lemon and orange to go with blossom plus hints of oatmeal and flinty reduction. The palate is not without depth although alcohol is just 12.7% - pure fruit and zesty acidity, the finish possessing a subtle pithy quality. Great definition and poise. Christian Eedes’ rating: 96/100.

Restless River Le Luc Pinot Noir 2021: Some 35% fermented whole-berry. Matured for 12 months in 228-litre barrels, 35% new. Seductive aromatics of red and black berries, musk, floral perfume, tea-leaf and white pepper while the palate has luscious fruit, bright acidity and velvety tannins. Full of charm and already quite accessible. Alc: 13.2%. Christian Eedes’ rating: 94/100.

Restless River Main Road and Dignity Cabernet Sauvignon 2020: Matured for some 22 months in 225-litre barrels, 20% new. Cassis, incense, violets, tea leaf and oystershell on the nose - very little herbal character, good or bad… Medium bodied and yet not short of fruit weight and structure while the tannins are fine, the finish properly dry. Alc: 13.8%. Christian Eedes’ rating: 94/100.

And we have a few of the last of the Wanderlust too…

Restless River Wanderlust Red Field Blend 2020: Grapes from the vine garden established by Bosman Family Vineyards on its Upper Hemel-en-Aarde property, a source of mother material for propagation purposes. Wessels selected eight varieties that all sat “within a certain window of ripeness” and then co-fermented. Some 50% consisting of Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the rest being Barbera, Malbec, Roussanne, Ruby Cabernet and Tinta Barocca. The nose shows red berries, floral perfume plus hints of herbs, pepper and spice. Good clarity of fruit, bright acidity and quite soft tannins - most appealing. Christian Eedes’ rating: 92/100.

About Us

Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.

In addition to the great selection of well-known local wines and MCC's, we also stock craft gin and beer, imported wines, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.

Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
