Now in Stock: Leeu Passant
Swartland-based Andrea and Chris Mullineux need no introduction, and as they are continue to release outstanding wines year after year we look forward to their latest vintages. The Leeu Passant range is based on fruit sourced from other regions and here are their Tasting Notes for the new vintages…
Stellenbosch Chardonnay 2022.
Vineyard Notes: From a vineyard planted on the higher loam-based slopes of Helderberg Mountain.
Production Notes: Spontaneous fermentation in oak barrels followed by natural malolactic fermentation. After spending 12 months on the lees, the wine was racked, blended, minimal sulphur added and aged a further 6 months in barrel before bottling.
This textured Chardonnay reflects its maritime climate with complex aromas of crushed lime and yellow grapefruit. It has a vibrant entry with flavours of tangerine and white pear, a touch of salinity and finishes with a textured and lush mouthfeel.
Wellington Cinsault 2022.
Vineyard Notes: This historic parcel of dry farmed bush vine Cinsault in Wellington is the oldest registered red wine vineyard in South Africa, planted in 1900 on the first selection of rootstocks available in the country.
Production Notes: Grapes are crushed to tank, with 100% whole clusters. Fermentation begins without inoculation and the wine was pigeaged twice a day. After fermentation, 3 weeks skin contact was given, and the wine was drained and pressed to barrel. Midway through the year the wine was racked and blended then bottled after 21 months in barrel.
The wine has a deep perfume of freshly cut roses with a hint of thyme and pomegranate. The palate is silky in texture, with multiple layers of red berry fruit. Very fine tannins give a beautiful structure to the wine.
Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2022.
Vineyard Notes: Planted on the mid-slopes of iron and sandstone-rich soils of the Helderberg Mountain in Stellenbosch.
Production Notes: The grapes were destemmed into tank for fermentation with indigenous yeasts and pigeaged or pumped over twice a day. After fermentation, 3 weeks skin contact is given, and the wine is then drained and pressed to barrel. The wines are racked and blended in Spring and bottled after 20 months in barrel.
This wine exudes aromas of blueberries, fragrant Kapokbos and hints of crushed cocoa bean. Sapphire plum and beautifully silky tannins create a luscious mouthfeel, finishing with finesse and a refined freshness.

About Us
Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in independent specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.
In addition to the great selection of well-known local wines and MCC's, we also stock craft gin and beer, imported wines, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.
Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
