Peter (Petrus) and Cathy planted their first vines in September of 2003 with the aim of producing their favourite beverage, bubbly! All the grapes harvested from Hout Bay Vineyards are used exclusively for their Cap Classique and from the second pressing, an extremely popular rosé wine (called Blush) is produced. They have expanded their range to include white wines from grapes within the Hout Bay valley and the 'Petrus', their red blend, also uses grapes grown in the Stellenbosch region. When I worked at Caroline's in about 2015 we were the first retailer to stock the Hout Bay Vineyards wines, so we are quite chuffed to have their wine on our shelves, again...

Rosé: Made with fruit sourced from Wellington, this Grenache-based Blanc de Noir was aged in 500-litre French acacia wood barrels to give complexity and grip. It has a more savoury note and can be enjoyed by itself as an apéritif, and would pair well with sushi and seared tuna.

Sauvignon Blanc: The cool Atlantic breeze that drifts through Hout Bay valley unlocks the elegant complexity of this popular grape variety. Loyal to the typical character of Sauvignon Blanc, with its freshly vibrant and vivacious juiciness, this white wine has aromas of asparagus, cut grass and green peppers with a dash of tropical fruit flavours for balance. Every sip will refresh and invigorate you with its subtle minerality. It is a perfect accompaniment to salads, fresh fish and white meat.

Petrus: This Rhone-style blend is an opulent combination of Shiraz, Grenache Noir, Mourvedre and Carignan. It is well balanced with an integrated structure and lots of fruit flavours. The wine is aged to perfection in Oak barrels, from which the wine maker, Petrus Roeloffze, selects only the best for his ‘Petrus’ blend.

Peter+Paul: A limited release, 2012 Rhône-style red blend, made “with love and gratitude”, spent 2 years in French Oak and another 8 years maturing in their cellar. A blend of Shiraz, Grenache Noir, Mourvedre, Carignan, Cinsaut and Viognier, it is deliciously full bodied and velvety smooth. The Paul in the name of the wine refers to the friendship between Peter Roeloffze and the late Hout Bay artist Paul Du Toit.

About Us

Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.

In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC's, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.

Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.

Thank you for your support - stay safe - see you soon!
