1st Walker Bay Outdoor's spectacular Sport-weekend

The first Walker Bay Outdoor and Hermanus 10's 2025 delivered an incredible weekend of Sport, Spirit and Scenic Beauty from Friday to Sunday, 2-4 May 2025, in Hermanus. The iconic coastal town of Hermanus played host to this spectacular blend of individual grit and team participation as Walker Bay Outdoor and Hermanus 10's joined forces to deliver the ultimate multi-sports festival.

“This weekend truly showcased the essence of Hermanus - where mountains meet ocean, and sport meets soul,” said Gerhardi Odendaal, the event Director. “It was more than competition; it was about community, connection, and creating lasting memories.”

More than 1,000 athletes and sports enthusiasts took part in the event. The action kicked off on Friday evening with the popular Twilight Run. Overlooking the Walker Bay coastline, runners lit up the 7km route from Grotto Beach to the Amphitheatre in a glowing stream of headlights and energy. Saturday morning brought early excitement with the 10km and 17km Trail Runs, starting and finishing at Hermanus High School.

As trail runners returned, the focus shifted to team competitions in rugby, netbal, dodgebal, cricket, and the fast-growing favourite, padel.

The day concluded with a lively Beer Run and entertainment in the Beer Garden, featuring live performances from Me & Mr Green and Sunset Sweatshop. South African sports figures Steven Kitshoff, Jean de Villiers, and Chris Dry attended the event, showing their support and joining in the fun.

Sunday started with a Triathlon at sunrise, with athletes swimming in the 14-degree waters towards the Old Harbour. The final event, the Open Water Swim, was nothing short of magical, with participants sharing the ocean with playful dolphins and a visiting whale - a signature Hermanus moment.

The organisers promised that the Walker Bay Outdoor and Hermanus 10's wil return next year with even more to offer. “It was an unforgettable weekend and we look forward to welcoming even more locals and visitors in 2026,” Gerhardi said.

The number of sport items for participation were amazing: 6 x Trail Runs; 6 x Swim; 6 x Other. All the results are available on the website: WalkerBayOutdoor.com.
