Overstrand Holiday Refuse Collection: No Changes to Schedule

- Specific schedule for Gansbaai mentioned lower down in this notice for the convenience of our holidaymakers.

Overstrand Municipality will continue to remove household refuse on the same days as residents have grown accustomed to - irrespective of whether that collection day coincides with a public holiday.  Please keep in mind that garbage collection may run late due to the massive volume of traffic and the extra houses occupied during this festive season.

The Municipal solid waste team work to a set schedule and service different areas on different days of the week, picking up household waste and clean recyclables.

Please do not leave your refuse bags on the sidewalk overnight.

Residents are also urged to ensure that their bins are on the sidewalk as early as 07:00 on the allocated collection day.

Each household is allowed to place one wheelie bin or four black bags (with the proviso that only one bag may contain garden waste) with domestic refuse on the sidewalk for removal in areas which the Municipality has not identified as a problem animal area.

Containers must be secured with baboon proof locking devices in all areas that the Municipality has identified as problem animal areas. No refuse (black) bags may be left on pavements or on top of or outside bins in problem animal and baboon affected areas.

If you happen to live in a declared problem animal area and your neighbour has not yet gone to the trouble to obtain an animal-proof waste-disposal container from the municipality, he/she is transgressing a by-law.

Remember, all bins used in problem animal and baboon-affected areas should be animal/baboon-proof and securely closed at all times to prevent animals gaining access to the waste. The declared problem animal areas are Kleinmond (including Arabella), Betty’s Bay, Rooiels, Pringle Bay, portion of Onrus, Voëlklip, Fernkloof (including the Golf Estate), Hermanus Heights, Eastcliff, Kwaaiwater and a portion of Hawston.

If you are letting your property, please be sure to bring all arrangements regarding the treatment of household waste to your tenants' attention.  In the case of weekenders, please make arrangements to ensure that your waste is presented as required on the scheduled waste collection day, or make use of one of the drop offs that are available.
