Now, let’s talk about a little magic from Italy - 🇮🇹 Zafferano (Saffron) 🇮🇹. This precious spice is renowned for its enchanting aroma, exquisite flavour, and numerous medicinal properties. It’s the dried stigma of the Crocus Sativus flower, harvested before sunrise when the flowers are in full bloom. It takes the stigmas from 150 flowers to make just one gram of Zafferano!
Saffron is a key ingredient in the famous Risotto Milanese, adding a golden colour and depth of flavour. It’s traditionally enjoyed on its own or paired beautifully with “Ossobucco,” a veal shank stew.
To use saffron, gently heat the filaments in a pan, add warm water, and let it steep for 10 minutes. Then, add the infused water and filaments to your dish or use the powdered saffron directly.
