Butterfly Centre Newsletter, July 2023
We have started our 3rd term of the year and are all very excited to be back at TBC and looking forward to a fun filled productive term. We intend to be a bit more proactive and send out a newsletter, short but sweet once a term.
We are pleased to welcome Carol-Ann Van Vuuren as Head Teacher and teacher of our senior class. Carol-Ann has a wealth of experience which will prove valuable in assisting the older pupils in skill development as well as steering TBC in the right direction.
We currently have 14 children at TBC split into two classes, The senior class as mentioned and then our junior class with Teachers Ros and Robyn.
Cape Town Aquarium Visit
We ended last term on a high with a trip to the Cape Town Aquarium. This was a great adventure, which was thoroughly enjoyed by learners and teachers. It even included a sponsored lunch at Peregrine. Many thanks to Peregrine for the kind sponsor.
Sports
During last term, we had our sports day, where we team up with Eduden (a small private school of mainstream learners in Stanford). This is a great partnership for TBC and much enjoyed and appreciated. We are so happy with our Eduden mates that we are partnering up again this term for a Pirate’s Day on 15th September. No walking the plank but lots of swashbuckling no doubt!
We were gifted a table cricket set by The Lord Taveners. This is a superb game which children of all abilities can partake in. We are incredibly grateful to David Ralph for setting this up for TBC and the children love it. They can’t wait to take part in the league and test their skills.
We rely heavily on donations to keep TBC going and we are extremely fortunate to have some fantastic donors. Every cent helps us and allows us to provide so much more for the children in our care. We have regular donors and ad hoc donors. We are keen to put together a data base for all our donors so they can be properly thanked and would appreciate you making sure we have your correct details on file. We can also then send updates on what we are doing with the donations and photos. Please do send your details to: dats@mweb.co.za
Our board secretary and music maestro, Andrew Herriot, and his wife Cathryn give so much to TBC and run a regular movie night from their home as well as many musical delights which is greatly supported by locals, and all proceeds come to TBC. A huge thank you to them.
We have also received some very generous donations which have enabled us to provide all our children with warm TBC-branded jackets. We have also been able to provide each child with the stationery they require for the year. It’s a huge help to us and we are forever grateful.
