Haes’it from Stanford

Steyn of Haes Farm in Stanford sent me a kind invitation and offer, that I come and stay with him and his partner who have built the HAES hospitality offering to what it is today.

Arriving late afternoon, Steyn welcomed me to dine with him and his friend who was also staying the night, Local wine, a simple steak and lots of chatter this was to be the thread that formed part of the hospitable tapestry of the Haes team.

The Haes Farm is compact with two rooms both economically built into a corrugated styled eco-friendly offering. With just two en-suite rooms you are bound to have a relaxing, personalised experience and great for some, no kids (under-18) allowed.

The rooms open up to a fynbos filled landscape with rolling hills as far as the eye can wander. Loungers offer the perfect perch for reading and sunbathing or sundowners before heading to the nearby restaurants.

Whilst the view, ecological approach to architecture and location are leading reasons to visit the Haes Farm.

It’s Harry’s incredible personal collection of artworks, bespoke furniture pieces and expansive library of design, architecture and photography books that will have you lingering in the central lounge area.

It’s in this very space that houses the farm’s lounge come dining area with open plan entertaining spot and honesty bar filled with local wines which allows one to read casually with the view at your side or else tucked away in the corner with an espresso in hand.

Breakfasts are also quite the spectacle and without giving away too much you are transported on a cloud far, far away from the usual suspects of fried eggs, bacon and baked beans.

Although I’m sure if this is what you felt like the team would not hesitate to rustle this up. However, only if the produce can be sourced locally from a neighbour or two. You see Stanford and its local produce are a passion for Harry and Steyn, here cheeses are sourced from, Klein Rivier, the dairy from down the dusty driveway, jams and preserves are made in house by Harry and any meats from a friend not too far away.

Steyn has a background in beauty therapy and spa consulting and it’s this extensive knowledge if you’re looking for an in-room spa treatment or couples massage that makes it truly special. Steyn makes use of Africology products for such treatments. Africology suits the ethos of Haes perfectly as they share the same dedication to local fynbos and cruelty-free production.
