Flower Valley joins ECD Leadership Programme

Two Flower Valley Conservation Trust Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners have been elected to join the National ECD Leadership Programme. Jimmona Schuuman and Megan Wyness participated at the event held between 22 and 26 June in Cape Town.

The programme is hosted by the Centre for Early Childhood Development – a non-profit organisation based in Cape Town. The Centre provides training to selected ECD practitioners, to strengthen leadership skills and capacity of ECD professionals.

Jimmona is the Principal of Flower Valley’s Early Learning Centre – the centre based on Flower Valley Farm for children aged two to six. The centre currently cares for 27 children. Megan is supporting the Flower Valley Early Childhood Development Programme, coordinated by Gabrielle Jonker. This programme is providing support to six ECD centres in the Gansbaai area to provide the best possible education for naught to six year olds.

The Leadership Programme includes modules on how to manage a non-profit ECD centre, financial management, fundraising and programme evaluation.

According to the Centre for Early Childhood Development, the future of ECD in South Africa is linked to the quality of the sector’s human resources and its skills and capacity. “South Africa’s requirement of economic growth, international competitiveness and equity will not be realised if the requisite skills are not developed.”
