With so many great leisure pursuits right outside your front door, we realise that it can be tough to decide how to spend your days at Mosaic Private Sanctuary. This is why we’ve decided to share a few of our favourite itineraries as inspiration. Today’s recommended itinerary features birding, kayaking and a delicious picnic.
Birding at Mosaic
Mosaic Private Sanctuary is an active member of the Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy. This non-profit conservancy in the Western Cape supports sustainable development and empowerment in the local community, as well as restoring the habitat for indigenous fauna and flora. As a result of our efforts to retain and support a healthy, balanced ecosystem, the area around the lodge is home to an amazing variety of birds.
Keep an eye out for the Cape Vulture, Blue Crane, Damara Dern, Knysna Woodpecker, Clapper Lark and Agulhas Long-billed Lark. Keen to tick off your conquests? Download our full bird list here. Birding can be enjoyed from the comfort of your private deck with a pair of binoculars, or you can make your way through the grounds if you feel like getting a bit of exercise while you’re at it.
Delicious picnic lunches at Mosaic
After you’ve spent the morning appreciating Mosaic’s amazing avian abundance, it’s time to pick a spot beneath the milkwood trees at the lagoon and lift the lid on one of the famous Mosaic Lagoon Cafe picnic lunches. Mosaic is a proud member of the Stanford Local Food Heroes initiative, which means as far as possible the ingredients used in the dishes we prepare are sourced locally. Tuck into freshly baked breads, home-made preserves, creamy cheeses and tasty charcuterie, and wash it all down with some of Walker Bay’s exceptional wines.
Kayaking at Mosaic
Once you’ve finished your leisurely lunch under the milkwoods, it’s time to go kayaking! Stanford kayaking experiences on the Hermanus lagoon is one of the best ways to experience the singular majesty of this region’s exceptional scenery up close. View the rolling countryside and stunning shoreline from a new perspective and drink in the storied ‘champagne air’ of Walker Bay while you burn a few calories and work up an appetite for dinner at the lodge.
There you have it – a great way to spend a blissful day at Mosaic Private Sanctuary. There are countless combinations of leisure activities to keep you entertained for weeks – keep an eye out for upcoming posts that feature more of our favourites!
Please note: All activities are inclusive when you stay at the Lagoon Lodge; they are subject to a surcharge if you’re staying in one of the Mosaic Cottages.
