SHOUT OUT TO WILDLIFE VOLUNTEERS - THANK YOU
Big shout out to Overstrand's Environmental Department, who in collaboration with Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve Rescue Team and other volunteers, are helping and looking after fire affected wildlife in the Kleinmond area.
The Kleinmond Highlands Fire has destroyed ± 5 300 hectares of land.
On the photos below are tortoises being released into unburned fynbos adjacent to the Kleinmond Golf Course.
The Environmental Officer in Kleinmond, Tamzyn Zweig, said a kind Kleinmond resident kept the rescued tortoises overnight in her garden before they released them.
We urge residents not to remove live animals anymore as they will make their way to areas that have not burned. Volunteers must please to stay on the formal pathways to avoid trampling of regrowth and to minimise erosion in the burned areas.
