Time to Apply for Rates Rebates: Pensioners, People with Disabilities
Retired and Disabled persons qualify for special rebates on property rates, according to their total gross monthly household income.
To qualify for the rebate:
• The owner/s must be a South African citizen/s
• The applicant/s must be the registered owner/s
• The owner/s must occupy the property as his/her/their primary residence (Absence up to three months per year, will be disregarded for this requirement)
• The owner/s must be at least 60 years of age or in receipt of a disability pension from the State
• The gross monthly household income may not exceed R15 920
• The applicant/s may not be owner/s of more than one property
Kindly note, that the 'gross monthly household income' means the gross monthly income of all the persons normally residing on the property resulting from salaries/stipends, wages, dividends, pensions, disability grants, rentals, board and lodging, interest received, capital transfers/deposits and any investment income.
Pensioner's rebate application forms are available on our website at www.overstrand.gov.za, click on Documents, click on Forms, click on Rebate applications forms and letters. When the application form has been completed, kindly hand in both pages plus all the obligatory documentation at your closest municipal office/rates hall, or send an email to enquiries@overstrand.gov.za for the attention of the Finance Department.
All applications must be received by the Municipality before 20 July 2022. The late applications are open until 30 September 2022.
