Leaving a Narcissist: There Is No Failure in Being Afraid
There is no failure in being too scared to take the step.
Have you ever felt ready to leave, only to think about the children, finances, finding a home and everything that lies ahead?
And beneath those practical concerns, perhaps there is fear.
Fear of the unknown. Fear of failure. Fear of being alone. Fear of the narcissist's reaction.
When you have lived in a destructive relationship for a long time, the familiar can feel safer than the unknown, even when it hurts.
But the familiar is not necessarily the best you can have.
You may feel disconnected from the people who once supported you. Yet there may be people ready to listen, help and walk alongside you as you find your way forward.
You do not need to criticise yourself for being afraid. You are contemplating a significant change, and you deserve understanding.
YOUR STEP TODAY: WRITE YOURSELF A LETTER.
Imagine your best friend were living your life.
What would you say to her?
Would you judge her for being frightened? Or would you remind her of her strengths, offer kindness and help her see that other possibilities exist?
Now write that letter to yourself.
Acknowledge your fears. Recognise how hard you have been trying. Remind yourself that you deserve respect, support and peace.
You don't need to solve everything today. Start by exploring your options and identifying people you can trust.
There is no failure in being afraid. You can prepare for change one step at a time.
Learn to give yourself compassion. You deserve it, too.
Master Your Beliefs. Master Your Future.
