One way to do it is to hold an old-fashioned party with hide-'n-go-seek and catches and blind man's buff and to buy lucky packets from Kerneels & Kie to fill them with sweets, a balloon, a drink, a cheese puff, whatever your budget allows, one for each kid. When they are exhausted with the fun of playing hand them out, light the candles on the birthday cake and my bet is they'll be clamouring to play again. I've yet to meet the kid who doesn't enjoy them once they get the hang of what to do.
