Places to Eat in Betty's Bay

Being a holiday town, the places to eat in Betty's Bay are very laid-back. There is more attention on locations that take advantage of the sea or mountain views than on the décor or presentation of the food. Instead you can expect more traditional dishes that stir childhood memories and down-to-earth hospitality.

Some of the unique eateries of Betty's Bay include one situated in the Botanical Gardens, one that looks like a medieval castle and another that has all the original, vintage images of the Old Whaling Station. So although there may be few restaurants to choose from, that certainly doesn't mean they lack character.

Being so small it is not difficult to find somewhere to stop. Restaurants dot the main road while others are spread out between the small sliver of town wedged between mountain and ocean. Don't be fooled by the bland exterior of some of the restaurants, inside there is often an inviting ambience that makes for a cosy dinner amongst locals and tourists as you tuck into a delicious home-style meal.

If you are in a rush or just passing through town there is very little in the way of take-aways but there are coffee shops where you can enjoy a steaming cup of coffee with a light meal or sweet delicacy.

Needless to say there are several family-friendly restaurants in this holiday town. When the whole family is out together there are options like pizza, fish & chips, Greek food and restaurants with a wide range of traditional food. Being on the edge of the coast means that the seafood in Betty's Bay is often freshly caught and mouth-watering.

The pub 'n grills in Betty's Bay are the watering holes where locals gather. The medieval memorabilia and fortress stone walls of some make it feel like you are transported to another dimension. While others take advantage of the scenery of mountain and ocean. Hearty meals often dominate the food menu, typical of any pub.

The restaurants are mostly quiet throughout the year and only in high season do they begin filling up with tourists and locals alike. However, there are a few restaurants that are small in space but popular in demand that require a booking in advance to secure a cosy corner. Fortunately the town never really loses its tranquil charm though and patrons can often enjoy an uninterrupted intimate dinner.
