The Overstrand Municipality and the area's business community recently announced that after successful negotiations with stakeholders in the industry, the first passenger cruise ship will drop anchor in Walker Bay in December 2022.
Much Needed Economic Boost
News that the first passenger cruise ship will be anchoring in Walker Bay just off the Hermanus coastline has been met with much anticipation. Business owners have reacted with joy, and communities are looking forward to the much-needed economic boost this will give the tourism industry in the Overstrand.
Tourists, Tourists Everywhere!
Passengers will come ashore in Hermanus for day excursions to some of the Overberg’s most popular tourist attractions that include historic sightseeing tours to landmark town destinations, shopping trips and wine tasting experiences at some of the region's award-winning wine estates. Visitors will also be able to enjoy ocean safaris to see the Marine Big Five and go shark cage diving in Gansbaai.
Let’s Stand Together As A Community To Welcome Visitors!
In preparation for the first visit, Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie will be meeting with the various business chambers to ensure that related businesses will be open and ready to receive these tourists. The municipality will also explore additional ways to welcome visitors ashore, all of which will coincide with the festive season.
