A Video Campaign...
The video was for a new client. The aim was to establish the "personality" of the marketing content we would be using going forward. The content was to be a video reel for social media. The venue is a family restaurant on Hermanus Waterfront. The concept of a venue open 12 hours a day, every day of the week, is far too large for a single video. So rather than try to create an overview, we decided to focus on 1 theme; a reason to visit the venue during the day.
The 1st problem is obvious from the photo above. The likelihood of getting a full venue - and - that someone will be getting out of the office, at the exact same time as we are there with the cameras is slim. Then we get problem 2. Even if the venue had been full, ordinary folk make terrible actors. Point a camera at them and they either get angry or turn into grinning idiots. The problem was easily solved by using one of our models. As this was for a new client we invited Khanyishe along. With 10 years of modelling experience, we knew we were going to get the photography we needed.
Immediately we ran into problem 3. We wanted Khanyishe to be served with a coffee by a friendly waiter. Now, fine waiters and waitresses though they are, they are still ordinary folk, not actors. Point a camera at them and they become super self-conscious. So we asked for a coffee and I stood with the camera running while the waiter served it to a table (he never realised). It worked quite well, apart from the fact that it would have been better to point the "Costa Coffee" logo toward the camera.
Beggers can't be choosers though. The clip we got was more than good enough to put into a 20-second social media reel.
