Wine and Co - Crystallum Pinot Noir...
The 2019 Pinot Noir range was released by Crystallum a few weeks ago, and we now have them on our shelf... Winemaker Peter-Allan Finlayson says, “We strive to find a balance between using old-world methods and traditions while keeping in tune with the vineyards we source our fruit from. This philosophy is followed through in the cellar, where we nurture what comes off the vines rather than manipulating the fruit to fit a predetermined outcome.”
Here are Christian Eedes' (from Winemag) ratings on this vintage:
Crystallum Peter Max Pinot Noir 2019. Grapes sourced variously from Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, Overberg and Elandskloof. 60% whole-bunch fermentation. A hint of reduction before red and black fruit and some spice on the nose. The palate is rich and full (alcohol is 14.2%) with dense, sweet fruit and moderate acidity, some pleasant grip to the finish. Christian Eedes' rating: 91/100.
Crystallum Litigo Pinot Noir 2019. Grapes from a vineyard just beyond Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge in the Overberg. 30% whole-bunch fermentation. Red fruit, rose petal and discreet oak-derived notes on the nose. The palate is light-bodied with fresh acidity and fine tannins. Wonderfully poised and energetic, this is very elegant. Christian Eedes' rating: 93/100.
Crystallum Mabalel Pinot Noir 2019. Grapes from Elandskloof, 10% whole-bunch fermentation. Red and black fruit plus a hint of smoky reduction on the nose. The palate is rich and relatively plush - with generous fruit and smooth textured, the finish is still nicely savoury. Christian Eedes' rating: 92/100.
Crystallum Cuvée Cinéma Pinot Noir 2019. Grapes from Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, 70% whole-bunch fermentation. Compelling aromatics of red and blackberries, violets, dried herbs and spice. The palate meanwhile shows both great fruit purity and structure, the tannins fine yet simultaneously grippy. Vivid, balanced and long, the stand-out wine of the vintage. Christian Eedes' rating: 95/100.
Crystallum Whole Bunch Pinot Noir 2019. Grapes from Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, 100% whole-bunch fermentation. The nose shows red fruit and a slightly herbal quality. Light bodied with fresh acidity and a very dry finish, this is an intriguing rendition of the variety but perhaps not for everyone… Christian Eedes' rating: 91/100.

About Us
Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.
In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC's, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, La Trappe Trappist Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty or you are not satisfied with the quality, we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.
Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
