Wine and Co - award season...
A BIT OF BLING
Over the year there have been online tastings, webinars and Zoom interviews with winemakers and recently there has been quite a bit of talk about wine competitions, ratings and the resulting awards. The Platter Guide is due to be released pretty soon, so I thought I would have a look at a few 'blingy' bottles that we currently have in stock. Many producers don't put the awards on their bottles, and some don't enter any competitions, but here are four that wear their medals proudly:
Eikendal Janina unwooded Chardonnay: The Janina exudes rich honey flavours with notes of sweet apple, orange peel and lemon zest. A floral richness surprises on the palate which is carried through mid-palate with a delightful, fresh finish. (Eikendal).
93 Platter.
92 Tim Atkin MW.
Eikendal Classique: The Eikendal Classique is an elegant, well-balanced Bordeaux style blend. Marvelous full flavours are entwined throughout, with strains of oak, spice, chocolate, tobacco and mint, all leading to a very smooth finish. It shows a rich, well-structured body, and fine tannins. This wine typifies what Eikendal is all about – it is a classy, understated red wine with staying power. Blend: 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot. (Eikendal)
91 Platter.
95 Tim Atkin MW.
Jason's Hill Izak: This Bordeaux Blend is rich in flavour and aroma intensity. Packed with cherry and ripe berry flavour with barrel aging characteristics. Flavours of dark fruits, cassis and spice are just some of what you may discover in this wine. This wine should age well for 5-10 years from the vintage date, many will find that this Bordeaux Blend has an even greater aging potential. (Jason's Hill).

90 Tim Atkin South African Report 2018
Waverley Hills SMV: The deep maroon centre is complemented with strong plum, oak and spicy tones. A bouquet of bell pepper, caramel and vanilla leaps out of the glass. The wine has a very soft front palate and fruity, but firm, mid palate with a fresh and long after taste. The Shiraz provides this blend with typical red fruit and spicy flavours, the Mourvèdre provides berry and fresh herbal aromas and the Viognier complements the overall aromatic sensation and softness to accompany the wood. Blend: Shiraz 81%, Mourvèdre 13%, Viognier 6%. (Waverley Hills)
Michaelangelo Gold.
Frankfort International Trophy Gold.
International Organic Gold.

About Us
Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.
In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC's, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, La Trappe Trappist Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty or you are not satisfied with the quality, we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.
Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
