We had the end-of-year concert which was delightful. The theme was Fairy Tales and we saw the children acting out all the stories that have delighted so many children over the years, including The Three Bears and The Princess and The Frog. Congratulations to the actors and producers and the costume designers, Zaan and Sandra (Principal and Chairman of the Board) - the costumes were superlative.
Then Father Christmas arrived at school and everyone got a PRESENT, followed by a special Christmas lunch. The end of the year arrived and the school said au revoir to the 8 Pikkewyntjies leaving the school for the big world of Primary School in Kleinmond. It's a moment of pride to send them off well-prepared and confident but it's a sad moment too to part with children one has loved and nurtured.
The school closes only at Christmas time for the teachers to have time with their families and for their families to have time with them. It's a lovely break for them but also a worrying time because some of the children will be hungry and neglected over the holidays. There is no solution to the problem. The rest of the year the school stays open to take care of them.
School re-opened on 9 January with a hearty breakfast. The buildings and playground and the village mercifully saved by the fire-fighting teams after a flare caused a fire on New Year. Devastating fires followed, as you all know and my husband and I are lucky our house was one of those the flames didn't consume.
Before I close, may I ask you please that if, when, you have a clean-out at home or the office, you pass things you no longer want, our second-hand shop's way. When the shop is full of stock, we sell heaps and the opposite is also true. Who knows why but it's a fact. To make arrangements please contact us.
Till next time all the best.
