These turtles found only at Pikkewyntjies Pre-primary are a little-known species, called Turtulus Pigmentatus.
They are created in the silence of fierce concentration as it is not easy to work with water paint while at the same time choosing colours that look good together. The shell is after all not a vase of flowers where it doen't matter what you shove in, it looks fine. One does notice with alarm that lime green next to grey with a watery pink on the other side is a dreary combination and that there's not much to be done about it for fear of making a hole in the paper.
Actually though. I'm sure you will agree, when they are all gathered together, all those Turtuli Pigmentati, ready to head for the water, all one sees is that they make a wonderful show of colour.
