Hello again
I always have a smile on my face when I see that it is Zaan calling me to update me on progress at Pikkewyntjies. She and her dedicated team continue to enrich the environment for these gorgeous children, and they are doing an amazing job to make this school a most extraordinary environment for the children. We in the surrounding communities are so fortunate to have this. The school serves the financially neediest families in the region, and without Pikkewyntjies, these children would be left without the educational support and daily nutrition that they need. The kids below are some of the latest crops of Pikkewyntjies who have had the privilege of a nurturing environment, teaching them important skills, values and behaviours to prepare them for junior school.
We need to support these children even more to help open up opportunities that will assist each of them reach their potential and break out of the cycles of poverty that are so common. Once they leave Pikkewyntjies and go to junior school, they have very limited support. At the moment, the kids do not have after-school assistance with homework, nor any internet connection to allow research for their projects.
My family has worked with Pikkewyntjies for a few years to put in place an incentive-based fundraising program, where matched any funds raised from the community in February of each year. The community and sponsors did a fantastic job in last year’s challenge, raising more than R130,000. With your generosity, she has now raised more than R380,000 since 2014 in these challenges! WOW!!!
In the last year, this money allowed the team to fix the school vehicle, train staff further with formal qualifications, build the needed infrastructure and provide additional support to the children, such as school uniforms when they left for junior school. The school is looking great, thanks to your combined effort. Go and have a visit and see for yourselves.
Thus, we are writing to challenge the communities, sponsors and donors to join us in raising money for Pikkewyntjies again in 2020. We are again willing to match any contribution from other families to the maximum of R60,000 (combined total).
Thus, if we raise this R120,000 now, we will have raised more than half a million Rands together for the school and the community.
This year, the money will be used to further improve the infrastructure, and the staff will receive further critical training. But, excitingly, we are also looking in the next 12 months to establish a limited after-school facility for kids in grade 1 upwards; and discussing whether Pikkewyntjies can use its trusted position in the community to help these kids further after they leave pre-school.
Please join us in showing your appreciation to the school, and continue this project to protect and nurture these children and the community in the long term.
Thank you so much.
