#ProtectSouthAfrica: OVERSTRAND UPDATE - FRIDAY, 16 JULY 2021
- Issued by Overstrand Municipality in conjunction with SAPS Overberg Cluster Commander, Brig. Donovan Heilbron, and the Incident Command Centre (ICC) on 16 July 2021.
It is a difficult and challenging time for the whole country - not only for the residents of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, but all the other provinces as well.
We can confirm that no looting or violence has occurred within the Overstrand Municipal Area. The situation in our area is calm at the moment, and all indications are that it will remain that way.
A multi-disciplinary Law Enforcement strategy is in place to respond to all potential risks within the area.
Should any violence break out, we will inform the community accordingly through existing community networks.
We appeal to residents to report and direct all information or suspicious activities to the South African Police
Services on 08600 10111 or to the ICC on 028 312 2400 or 028 313 8980, alternatively phone the 24 hour control room 028 313 8111 for assistance.
Guard against sharing false, unverified or inaccurate information. We urge the public to be wary of fake news spread through social media, including WhatsApp, as it could cause unnecessary panic and fear.
It is with gratitude and respect that we acknowledge the commitment and perseverance of those involved in keeping our towns and businesses in the Overstrand safe, all officials as well as members of the community who are united in ensuring that no looting will be allowed to take place in our towns.
