A Busy Fortnight
Why has there been silence from Pikkewyntjies for two weeks now?
Zaan had a bad reaction to her covid vaccination and had to take to her bed. Thank goodness that although she felt very sick, she wasn’t in any danger but of course she needed peace and quiet to recover so I didn’t pester her for photos or anything else.
She’s well now but the whole of last week was wasted trying to get myself made an administrator on the school website and I am still not an administrator although by Friday I was at my wits’ end after hours of looking at the screen to try and follow the instructions on ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ which tell you to look for things in the ‘top right corner’ which may well exist by not on my laptop. I was also tempted at that point to behave in a very childish manner and scream and yell at the smirking screen.
I am still not an administrator but that’s mainly because time is like money, one quickly reaches the limit and we are also very busy investigating jungle gyms. I thought it would be easy - phone up a supplier, discuss requirements and prices - discuss again - and maybe again - then sit back and await installation.
How very naive I was! I think ordering a jungle gym for some very precious children for whom you want to provide maximum entertainment and exercise while ensuring the donors’ money is spent in the best possible way, is as challenging as building a house.
In our case, it’s especially tricky because we have two existing gyms in the playground, one made of wood and one of recycled plastic and neither of them particularly exciting. We want to incorporate them to make one big exciting gym with fireman’s poles and climbing walls and tunnels. We have now found a supplier of recycled plastic as well as suppliers of wood poles (that was easy) but we haven’t heard back from them about the price...
I’ll keep you posted.
