Pikkewyntjies Schoolwork
Hooray, school has been open solidly for a while now, five days a week and the children are re-settled in a secure routine.
They have adapted to working in isolation because it doesn’t mean working in silence and it doesn’t mean the school day isn’t as interesting as ever.
There’s still the fun of arts and crafts in all its creativity. Snails so pretty were made I think most gardeners wouldn’t mind them in their flower beds.
They are revising their understanding of numbers too because a chunk of the school year has been lost. In this game, Juffrou Zaan calls out a number and whoever’s turn it is must throw a bean bag onto that number’s square.
Next Juffrou Zaan calls out a number and the Pikkewyntjies must hop to the block where the number is written.
The shape of the moment is the square and they have been learning the properties of the square shape and the words to describe them.
One day when the class was busily at work at their tables, Cacoo popped in to see what they were up to and wandered around the classroom looking at everything and ‘talking’ to them. They were delighted to have her join them and were very disappointed when she walked over to the door and hopped outside and away.
I expect she wanted to check on them. She is probably missing the activity and noise of playtime especially as she gets plenty of attention.
Sadly playtime is one part of the school day that really isn’t as good as it was. The children want to know when this COVID thing will be over so they can play again.
