The Funding Challenge
You remember the February Challenge issued by the school’s Fairy Godfather?
The deadline was two days away and we were tens of thousands short of the total needed to match the amount he pledged this year.
Zaan had not given up hope. She held the faith steadfastly that somehow, somewhere, someone would have a contact who had a friend who had the means and the wish to help us.
Most of us were working hard to share her optimism because that seemed impossible.
She did it though, her passion and her vision for the school rallied extraordinary efforts from the school’s family of supporters and the money was raised. Actually more than was necessary to meet the target was raised - in a world reeling from the effects of covid. It feels like a miracle.
You’ll hear more about this when the planning committee has met and the parents have been consulted.
School is in full swing, more relaxed now since covid precautions have lightened. There are 38 Pikkewyntjies this year and two more join the school next month when they will be at capacity.
The 2 to 4-year-olds are still settling into the school routine but with the help of Louise at mealtimes and Valmi’s help with activities, Genevieve and her Pikke are looking forward to a good year.
It’s very tiring though - as you can see. The drive home in the school bus is unusually quiet at this time of the year. The four-year-olds who have moved to Zaan’s class are also at full stretch at the moment.
It will be good when they can relax precautions further and the children can have their nap after lunch at school as they always used to do.
