Hot Rock Sauna Now Open at Proactive Fitness
Our brand new Hot Rock Sauna opened on (Friday, 28 Feb 2025) at 8:30am.
We are extremely proud to announce that our Sauna has been beautifully renovated and restored to better than its former glory. All the work has been meticulously and professionally done by local woodwork, steel and electrical installation experts: Francois, Glenn and Jaden from Powerglide. We have imported and installed the following brand new modern high tech sauna equipment directly from Finland:
• 6.8kw Harvia custom made corner heating unit filled with 80kg of imported raw granite rocks which creates a massive meter high Hot Rock Column radiating heat into our Sauna cabin
• 2 x American Bass wooden benches, back and arm rests professionally assembled by Tasha and his amazing team @ Coastal Timber Mouldings
• a new spruce wooden bucket and ladle/spoon to gently splash ONLY fresh tap water onto the granite hot rock pillar (no other fluids or oils of any sort will ever be permitted to be used inside our sauna!)
• an integrated electronic control panel and thermostat system which will regulate the set point temperature @ a constant mean average of 75 degrees celsius
• new LED lighting system to brighten and enhance your sauna experience
This exciting wellness experience is available for our members to use and enjoy at no extra cost HOWEVER we expect those members who are interested in booking their sauna sessions to do so via our reception team who will strictly control access to this highly sophisticated relaxation environment.
BOOKING and SIGNING OUR NEW SAUNA RULES and PRE-SAUNA MEDICAL QUESTIONNAIRE IS ESSENTIAL FOR EVERYONE INCLUDING ANY PROACTIVE STAFF OR TENANTS WHO WISH TO SAUNA HOWEVER MEMBER BOOKINGS WILL OBVIOUSLY ALWAYS TAKE PRIORITY @ PROACTIVE FITNESS!
Here's a copy of our medical disclaimer and the extensive list of Sauna usage rules which you can print, sign and simply hand deliver to our reception team who will keep your confidential sauna records safely filed.
Bookings will always be made on a first come first served basis however we will not allow more than 4 people to ever occupy the sauna at any one time.
The sauna will however not be available during Loadshedding and it will be placed out of service once a week during off peak times in order to allow our sauna cleaning team to deep clean and service the sauna for you.
If you have not read and signed our Pre-Sauna medical questionnaire and acknowledged our strict Sauna Rules then you will be refused access thereto.
These strict access measures have carefully and thoughtfully been put in place to ensure that you and whoever sits beside you inside our sauna are cognisant of the important do’s and don’ts prior to and during this relaxation process.
The true art of enjoying the sauna is a sophisticated one and it’s based on strict Scandinavian principles of human hygiene, health, rejuvenation and mutual respect for your fellow sauna user. Please be patient, quiet, respectful, grateful and kind whilst you Sauna.
Our Sauna access and usage is also based on the simple principle of respect for the people who have lovingly installed and care for the sauna on a daily basis and that includes our amazing team of male and female attendants as well as our front of house booking team.
I would therefore genuinely appreciate it if you will adhere to our strict rules and regulations which I have meticulously put in place for your protection and enjoyment inside my sauna.

Precious pressed our Sauna ‘ON’ button @ exactly 8am on Friday the 28th of February 2025. The first happy person was shown in and entered this beautiful space @ exactly 8:30am. One more historic step forward for everyone @ Proactive Fitness
These imported American Bass and Norwegian spruce benches and back rests were all assembled by Tasha’s Team @ Coastal Timber Mouldings. This wood is totally untreated and it’s the real McCoy so please treat it with nothing other than respect and that’s the way I am certain that you would treat your own home sauna.
And to ‘Finnish’ with folks this is that fully imported, custom made Scandinavian 1.2 meter high Harvia Hot Rock Corner Heating column that will only ever be gently sprinkled with fresh water by you from our new wooden Sauna bucket and spoon. And that’s a complete and comprehensive Sauna wrap from me to excite and raise your core temperature on a Friday morning in Hermanus @ Proactive Fitness.
Congratulations to Steve Dayson who is the very first Proactive member to sign up, book in and enjoy our new Hot Rock sauna experience. Steve received his granite sauna rock from me commemorating and symbolising the official opening of our new Sauna and giving us his positive thumbs up which means that his sauna experience was a positive one. Judging by his broad smile and the beads of sweat running down his forehead I’m guessing that he is enjoying the opposite of a ‘cool’ time in there.
Huge respect and thanks from me to Francois (including his son Jaden, who is not in this photo) and Glenn from Powerglide who did the complete installation for us from start to finish. These men can do just about any job, big or small and they did this important job for us with such a positive spirit which made this project a joy for me. Thanks guys
