Backpackers in Caledon
Caledon provides a great base from which travellers can explore the rich beauty and adventure of the Overberg region in the Western Cape. The little town, most famous for its unique hot springs, provides a great weekend away from the city or a tranquil base from which to venture though to its busier neighbour Hermanus, when the whale hotspot is overrun with holidaymakers.
Travellers seeking accommodation in Caledon won’t find the traditional dormitory or hostel rooms, but can rather choose from comparably affordable inn-style or self-catering farm-stay cottages. Visitors can expect to grab a room from anywhere between R220 and R350 per night.
The inn can accommodate up to 12 persons in comfortable, affordable rooms that have been affectionately named after the characters in Mark Twain’s novels. The backpacker-style facilities offer a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, two bathrooms and a shower for guests to share. The inn is conveniently located close to the N2 and right near the bus stop, within walking distance to all amenities. Alternatively, try the rustic farmhouses nestled between the Tesselaarsdal Mountains or opt for a cheap B&B.
Caledon makes an ideal spot for a peaceful, beautiful weekend getaway. Simply enjoy the scenery, explore the natural surrounds on mountain bike or on a hike and be located just a hop and a skip from Hermanus if you’re in looking to see the whales on a budget.
