Empowering Youth Through Education, Sport and Life Skills
One of our job pathway programmes begins in the Life Orientation classes of 2 local high schools, where the Grootbos Foundation team assists with Subject Choices in Grade 9 classes. At this age, knowing yourself and setting personal goals are some of the most significant factors in choosing school subjects. These photos were taken at Gansbaai Academia High School.

This is Hockey Coach Mesuli leading a Grade 6 Grassroots Soccer Skillz HIV/Aids lesson at Masakhane Primary School. These lessons reinforce the national Life Orientation syllabus and use sports terminology and sports coaches to deliver life skills from a different perspective than standard classroom techniques.
The Masakhane Hub classroom offers children a safe place to do their homework after school and engage in indoor activities like computer research for projects, art, chess and board games. These groups are working on magazine collages and colouring in. The hub is one of the safe places for children where Grootbos Foundation staff offer organised activities and a nutritious meal.
This is the Spring Day walk at the Butterfly Centre in Stanford, where Grootbos coaches usually deliver weekly games, sports and gross motor skills development with special needs teenagers. This week, they welcomed the new spring season by joining in the Butterfly Centre Spring walk.
