Turning Corks into Conservation
At The Great White House Collection Curio, we are always looking for meaningful ways to support our community while embracing the values of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Our two shop assistants, Anthea and Chiara, recently took part in a creative project that does exactly that. Collecting used wine corks from the Southern Right Bar, they carefully cleaned, painted and transformed them into charming little penguins complete with festive Christmas scarves.
What started as a fun craft project has become a way to make a difference. A percentage of every penguin sold will be donated to the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary (APSS), helping to support the important work they do in caring for injured, sick and abandoned seabirds.
By giving these corks a second life, the project keeps waste out of landfill, supports a worthy local cause and brings a little creativity and joy into the world. It is a wonderful example of how small actions can have a positive impact on both the environment and our community.
These unique cork penguins are now available in store at the Great White House Collection Curio and make the perfect stocking filler or thoughtful gift.
During your next visit, be sure to stop by and chat with Anthea and Chiara. They would love to share more about the project and the many ways we support local conservation and community initiatives.
