Overstrand Municipality Tap Water Safe to Drink
Overtrand Municipality would like to confirm to the public that all water that is being distributed through the municipal water networks is not contaminated and safe to drink.
This confirmation comes after rumours that are doing the rounds on social media that tap water is contaminated and that people get diarrhoea from our water.
This raised concern among residents, and we want to assure residents that the Municipality's drinking water is of very good quality, and it is safe to drink water straight from the tap.
Overstrand’s treated water is tested by an accredited external laboratory in accordance with the South African National Standards (SANS) 241 to ensure quality.
Water samples are taken regularly at all the water treatment plants and in the reticulation networks. The drinking water contains no salmonella or e-coli bacteria. Salmonella is the bacteria that causes Enteric Fever (Typhoid Fever).
