Wyn maak plek vir Brandewyn! 

Gansbaai Wynproegilde se gereelde wynproe-aand is op Dinsdag, 20 September 2022 in die Great White House, Kleinbaai ietwat omver gegooi - wyn het plek gemaak vir brandewyn! Dr Winnie Bowman en Christelle Read-Jahn van die SA Brandewyn Stigting het duidelik gewys dat Suid-Afrikaanse brandewyne baie besonders is. 

“Alhoewel vanaand se proe beslis anders gaan wees, glo ek dat almal dit nietemin baie sal geniet,” het voorsitter Johan Pfister gesê. “Suid-Afrika het Brandewyn sonder twyfel sy eie gemaak.” Johan sê dit is Winnie en Christelle se tweede besoek aan die gilde en hy het dit goedgedink om hulle weer te nooi. Christelle het voorgestel dat dit nie sommer ‘n brandewynproe-byeenkoms moet wees nie, maar eerder ‘n ‘Kosparing’-geleentheid, of te wel ‘Food Pairing’.

Christelle het begin deur die gaste iets van die Brandewyn Stigting, waarvan sy self ‘n Stigtings-Direkteur is, te vertel. “Vanaf brandewyn se beginjare, meer as 300 jaar gelede tot by vandag se status as Wêreldkampioen, is Suid-Afrikaanse brandewyn gekenmerk deur evolusie en innovasie,” het sy gesê. “Die Suid-Afrikaanse Brandewyn Innovasie Uitdaging wil daardie DNS identifiseer om brandewyn se toekomstige sukses te verseker.”

 
Iets oor die aanbieders:

Both ladies are from the Cape Town region. Their CVs are filed with various positions and several awards.

Dr Winifred Bowman is a qualified physiotherapist, and biomedical scientist and obtained a PhD in Education (Didactics) and Cape Wine Master. She has served as a wine/spirit tasting judge for more than 10 years including on the Wine-of-the-Month Club selection panel.

Christelle Reade-Jahn studied at the University of Stellenbosch and Wits Business School Marketing and worked for Unifruco (now CapeSpan) in the Marketing department, getting to know the fruit and wine industries. She started working for the South African Brandy Foundation in 2011.

By Christelle se ‘Kosparing’-gedagte, het Sjef Chris Pead gemaklik ingepas en homself weer eens oortref met die disse wat voorgesit is.

Voorgereg: 

Country Terrine, Mustard Mousse and Pickled Cumcumber Relish, saam met Durbanville Hills Merlot (10 jaar oud) brandewyn wat geproe is.

Hoofgereg:

Roast Sirloin of Beef, rich brown sauce en smaaklike bykomstighede, saam met Boschendal XO brandewyn.

Nagereg:

Coconut Pana Cotta, Caramelised Pineapple and Coconut Shavings, saam met Gannaput VSOP brandewyn.

Saam met ‘n heerlike koffie om die aand mee af te sluit, is SA Brandewyn Stigting se Diemersfontein (10 jaar oud) geproe.

Nou-ja, SA Brandewyn Stigting se puik brandewyne by ‘n Wynproe-geleentheid was toe glad nie so ‘n slegte idee nie - inteendeel, wat ‘n belewenis was dit nie!
