Individual Doubles Squash Tournament Comes To Town
Gansbaai is blessed to have so many outdoor sporting options as well as a little-known, well-maintained squash court at the golf club. There are a number of regular, mostly single players, who use the courts regularly, many of which at a very high standard.
Doubles squash has become a competitive, fun filled fast sport, which provides competition for many more squash players at a time, over a short period of time. Dave and Caron from Saxon Lodge play competitively at many other venues and decided to start a tournament here, initially as a means to stay at home and play, create an interest in doubles play and ultimately to bring players from the greater Western Cape to our village to experience this beautiful place we call home.
We had 16 players from Cape Town, George, Bredasdorp and Gansbaai all playing in good and competitive spirit. The competition design allows players to carry their doubles points from round to round as individuals, which separates the players into 4 groups to determine an individual winner in each group. This formula was designed by Stan Voges from Bredasdorp and he also managed the running of the tournament. Our overall winner was Femi Olarogun from Cape Town.
Out of town players stayed at Saxon Lodge where we had 2 evenings of braai and light music under the stars overlooking the harbour and the Bay. A guitar, a voice or 2 and the evening was made…
Our lodge is suited to small groups hanging out together for any occasion, can be self-catering or catered. Private, beautiful and intimate.
