In total we spent 23 days waiting and hoping to see a White shark in Gansbaai and we are ecstatic to say that Saturday was the day, the sharks are back in the bay! Our vessel, Slashfin, took to the water bright and early along with three other shark cage diving vessels with new hope after hearing that White sharks had been sighted in the area the day before, and we are pleased to say that each of the boats including ourselves were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of these elusive sharks. Whilst we had a bit of a wait it was well worth it when our first shark was spotted cruising on the other side of the boat before swimming underneath and appearing infront of us. A male, over 3.0m in length, the exhilaration at finally seeing these animals after such a long time is hard to explain. Soon after another male, a little smaller but much more active appeared and continued to come into view every 15 minutes or so. Not to be left out, a large female, approximately 3.5m in length rounded off our shark sightings for the morning.
It was and amazing day to be out on the water, we are so pleased to see the White sharks back in our area and have all fingers crossed that we continue to see them.
