Welcome to the Funky Fynbos Festival 2017! The coastal Overberg town of Gansbaai is proud to host the fourth annual Festival and invites all to join in the fun and festivities in the heart of the beautiful Cape Floral Kingdom.
This year the event will span over the weekend of 22 - 24 September 2017 and include three main venues. The Protea Centre along the Main Road of Gansbaai will have food and craft stalls, freshly brewed coffee, live music, fresh fish & chips as well as being the location of the Funky Fynbos Street Parade.
Next up is the Gansbaai Harbour. A popular for photography, surfing, watching the tide roll in as well as the local fishing boats coming in from a long day at sea, the Gansbaai Harbour will be another hotspot for festival-goers. The Harbour will play host to a number of craft and food stalls, more live music, fynbos talks and journey displays, the Cropped Competition and also a Fish Braai Competition.
The Funky Fynbos MTB Race kicks off
Heading out towards B’bos, you’ll find the third and final main venue of the Festival, the beautiful Lomond Wine Estate. This will be the host of all the sports events of this year’s event, including the Funky Fynbos MTB Race, the Funky Fynbos Trail Run and the Funky Fynbos Bass Challenge. This year there is also the added Funky Fynbos ‘Ironman’ and ‘Ironwoman’ Duo Challenge where participants can take part in both the trail run and mountain biking race to really test their endurance. Throughout the weekend Lomond will also feature live music, wine tasting, great food, crafts stalls and kids entertainment to complement the stunning vistas of the farm.

For the Festival, the whole town jumps in with the new addition of the Street Parade and the local restaurants all sporting funky menus and themes. One of these establishments is the popular Groeneweide. They will be hosting a lovely Traditional Fynbos Display along with their Farmshop where you can buy all sorts of goodies, a Farmer’s Market with locally crafted goods and produce as well as funky activities for the kids.

Known as the Great White Shark Capital of the World as well as being home to the Marine Big 5, Gansbaai hosts a wide variety of things to see and do for the whole family to enjoy. The town and its surrounding area is home to some of the best mountain biking and hiking trails around as well as horse riding, quad biking, scenic flights and beautiful beaches. Visitors can also choose to visit the southernmost forest in Africa, Platbos Forest, go on a whale watching trip, take a short drive to the Southernmost Tip of Africa, L’Agulhas, and lots more in the neighbouring towns of the Overberg.
