Overberg Buttermilk Pudding
We are already cooking up a storm in preparation for our Christmas lunch. An old family favourite made its way to the dessert buffet. I grew up with this buttermilk baked pudding, my mom loved to serve it with stewed fruit. Us children like to add some Golden syrup on top to make it even sweeter!
Mom would simply add the ingredients from the top of her head and I never really bothered to ask for the recipe. Recently I went through her old recipes and found this "Recipe Calendar" and there it is! What interest me is that the person who submitted the recipe for this calendar lived in the same street in Bredasdorp where my mom grew up! So I have to come to the conclusion that my grandmother most probably also had this recipe. I think it is safe to say that this recipe is truly an Overberg heirloom.
Unfortunately, the calendar is missing the first few pages - you can see that it has done its duty in the kitchen! I'm curious to know if anybody out there also still has this recipe calendar and knows the year and who published it.
We will be serving it with real, homemade custard for Christmas lunch.
