When You Work With a Narcissist
You start to question yourself.
Am I overreacting?
Did I misunderstand?
Maybe I’m just not good enough…
And slowly, without even noticing it, you find yourself defending who you are…
Explaining your intentions…
Standing back while someone else takes the credit that was always yours.
This is what it can feel like when you work with a narcissist.
But here is the shift - and it may not be the one you expect:
Your way out is not through shrinking.
It is not through proving.
And it is certainly not through trying to outplay them.
Your way out is up.
Because the more you grow…
The more you become clear…
The more you stand in your truth…
The more resistance you will feel.
Not because you are wrong.
But because you are no longer controllable.
And that is what unsettles them.
A narcissist in the workplace doesn’t fear failure - they fear you outperforming them.
So instead of rising… they try to diminish you.
So hear this clearly:
This was never about your inadequacy.
It was never about you being “too much” or “not enough.”
It was always about what your potential reflects back to them.
And here is where your power lives:
Not in fighting them.
Not in fixing them.
But in becoming even more of who you are.
Knowing your strengths.
Owning your direction.
Choosing your future - deliberately.
Because when you become anchored in yourself, something shifts:
You become untouchable.
Not because they stop…
But because you no longer need them to.
And in that space, you don’t just survive the environment.
You rise beyond it.
This is your moment of accountability:
Will you keep looking outward for validation… or will you turn inward and claim the power that was always yours?
